Resin amoung other things is a mixture of epoxy and die. It is molded like putty when it is soft, then stained when it is hard. After years of practice, Meybol is very proficient creating tropical animal common in Costa Rica. Costa Rica has many variety of frogs. Meybol creates resin versions of these with all the natural color. The variety of color of frogs may suprise someone not used to these tropical species. Meybol also makes a variety of Costa Rican birds like the macaw and tucan. Crocodiles are also very common and dangerous. Many of her decorated knifes feature the Crocodile. Meybol mixed stones in her resin artwork as well. These stones can be seen in the pictures provided below. Other items Meybol decorates with resin are incense burners and pipes. The pipes are very elaborate and popular with tourist who identify with the Bob Marley culture. Many of her pens and knives feature a person smoking. In addition to resin artwork, Meybol if very skilled making cowrie necklaces. She docorates these with beads, shells, coral and coconut wood as is the custom in Costa Rican and Central American jewelry, but she also adds some of here own ideas. For example she also used her resin artwork in jewerly as will, with a resin animal or design as the necklace pendant. Many people think of bead necklaces as a sting of beads, Meybol does string beads for some bracletts but most of her cowrie necklaces are created by weaving and knoting the strands. This more intrigate process takes much longer to learn and produces much more enjoyable necklaces. These type of necklaces are still fairly plentiful in Costa Rica, however, they are harder to find in the United States due to their complexity. I hope you enjoy this page.
